Why did PPT fall 14.0% on 21 Sep 2026?
Perpetual
Perpetual's board rejected EQT's revised takeover bid of A$22.50 per share, removing the acquisition premium and causing the stock to fall sharply back toward its standalone value.
Multiple news sources published within minutes of the price detection all confirm Perpetual's board rejected EQT's revised takeover proposal and concluded the engagement process. This is the textbook explanation for the sharp ~14% drop — the stock had been trading with a takeover premium baked in, and rejection of the bid causes that premium to collapse immediately. The sector signal (ASX Financials down 0.20%) and S&P 500 move (+0.17%) are both too small and directionally inconsistent to explain a move of 8.9x the normal daily range, firmly ruling out macro or sector drivers as primary causes.
